Our Approach
The REAP Framework –
Driving the Safety Sense Movement
At the Child Health and Safety Organisation (CHSO), our work is guided by a simple but powerful framework:
REAP — Research, Education, Advocacy, and Partnerships
Together, these four pillars form a holistic approach to preventing childhood injuries and building a culture of safety awareness from an early age.
Research
Understanding the problem to inform the solution
We believe effective child safety interventions must be grounded in evidence.
CHSO works to align with global research, including insights from the World Health Organization, which highlights that many childhood injuries are predictable and preventable.
Our research focus includes:
- Understanding common causes of childhood injuries
- Identifying risk environments (home, school, community)
- Supporting data-driven program design
- Collaborating with academic institutions for studies and evaluations
Through research, we ensure that our solutions are not only impactful, but also measurable and scalable.
Education
Equipping children with life-saving knowledge
Education is at the heart of the Safety Sense Movement.
We develop child-friendly learning tools that help children recognize danger and make safer decisions in everyday situations.
Our approach includes:
- Storytelling through The Safety Adventures of BB
- School-based safety awareness programs
- Practical, easy-to-remember frameworks:STOP • LOOK • THINK • ASK
- Parent and caregiver engagement
We believe that when children understand safety early, they grow into more confident and aware individuals.
Advocacy
Raising awareness and influencing change
Child safety must be recognized as a public health priority.
CHSO advocates for:
- Increased awareness of preventable childhood injuries
- Integration of safety education into early learning systems
- Policy and stakeholder engagement on child safety
- Media-driven campaigns to shift public perception
By amplifying the conversation, we aim to move child safety from a private concern to a shared societal responsibility.
Partnerships
Working together for greater impact
No single organisation can solve child safety challenges alone.
CHSO collaborates with key stakeholders across sectors, including:
- Healthcare institutions such as Greater Accra Regional Hospital
- Educational institutions such as SOS Hermann Gmeiner School
- Academic and research partners
- Media organisations and corporate partners
Through partnerships, we expand reach, strengthen credibility, and scale impact.
